WALKING GARDENS
This thesis project explores the integration of living plants into fashion, specifically focusing on garments that can house the plant roots as part of the fabric structure. Inspired by the mythical concept of the Forestfolk, this project combines biomimicry with circular design principles to shift our broken relationship with nature. By embedding chia plants into crochet and knitted fabrics, these garments offer natural cooling benefits to the wearer, facilitating a symbiotic relationship that fosters a reconnection with nature. The study presented here details the studies made, design process, experimentation, and challenges encountered in crafting a collection that not only embodies sustainable practices but also can provide future environmental benefits through plant-human daily interaction. By establishing a new kind of relationship with nature, we cultivate a stronger bond between the wearer and the garment. Each garment becomes more than just clothing, it becomes a living being.
